With heartfelt gratitude, Herren Project announces the upcoming departure of Pam Rickard, Director of Active Engagement. Pam’s last day with the organization will be April 25, 2025 — a symbolic conclusion to her remarkable 11-year journey with Herren Project that began on April 19, 2014, when she met our founder, Chris Herren, at the Boston Marathon and asked him to sign her jacket.
That one connection in 2014 sparked a path that led to the creation of Team Herren Project, a fundraising initiative that evolved into a vibrant nationwide community of compassionate advocates. Under Pam’s leadership, Team Herren Project raised more than $5.5 million to support individuals and families affected by addiction, while building a community rooted in connection, encouragement, and hope.
Pam, who just celebrated 19 years in recovery on April 17, feels the time is right to step away to pursue other recovery-centered initiatives that are close to her heart and to focus on her growing family as a “Neena.”
“Pam’s impact on Herren Project and the countless lives she touched through Team Herren Project is immeasurable,” said Bonnie Sawyer, Executive Director. “Her energy, vision, and heart have helped shape our organization in powerful ways. She will be deeply missed, but we support her as she begins this new chapter.”
Chris Herren, founder of Herren Project, shared, “From the moment I met Pam, I saw someone who was passionate, driven, and committed to helping others. Over the past 11 years, she’s turned that passion into something extraordinary. Her work helped shape not just a program, but a community that reflects the heart of Herren Project. I’m forever grateful for her belief in our mission and the way she’s lived it out with such purpose.”
Pam also offered a personal message as she transitions from her role, “What started with a signature on a 2013 Boston Marathon jacket became one of the most meaningful chapters of my life. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve built together—this community of people showing up for each other and a cause greater than ourselves. Herren Project, and those I’ve had the privilege to grow with will always be a part of my story.”
There will be no immediate changes to Team Herren Project programming. Herren Project’s leadership team is committed to a smooth transition and continuing the mission Pam helped bring to life. Caitlyn Burke, Director of Donor Relations, will serve as the new point of contact and assume all responsibilities for this peer-to-peer fundraising initiative.
