Herren Project Lights the Night Purple
The Prudential Center lights its tower a different color every night in December, representing 31 nonprofit causes as part of its annual 31 Nights of Light program. We were honored to once again be chosen to light the Boston skyline purple for those affected by addiction in the program’s 14th consecutive year. Herren Project staff, ambassadors, and board members flipped the switch to light up Boston on December 16, 2022. The top of the Prudential Center beamed purple in support of the disease of addiction despite the treacherous night of rain.
Herren Project is a national addiction nonprofit organization helping individuals, families, and communities affected by the disease of addiction. It was started in 2011 by former professional basketball player Chris Herren, who has been in long-term recovery since August 1, 2008. Their goal is to help everyone find the resources and support they deserve to overcome the effects of addiction and to live healthy, fulfilling lives substance-free. They also aim to break the stigma and bring positive awareness nationwide.
“Herren Project is honored to be chosen as one of this year’s recognized nonprofits. There has never been a more important time to shine a light of hope for the millions of lives touched by addiction. We are grateful to The Prudential Center for standing with us to bring awareness to this important cause.” – Bonnie Sawyer, Executive Director
The 31 Nights of Light program was introduced in 2008 to celebrate local Boston-area organizations and draw attention to the great work they do in Boston and beyond. Utilizing a state-of-the-art LED lighting system, the 51st floor of the Prudential Tower will change color daily to honor its 29 community partners.
