2025 MPM Memorial Golf Tournament

On July 7, 2025, 144 golfers teed off at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Sutton, MA, to honor the life of Matthew P. Malone and advance recovery and prevention through Herren Project. Organized by Matthew’s family and friends, the MPM Memorial Golf Tournament raised $16,500 this year—bringing the event’s cumulative impact to over $100,000 in support of individuals and families affected by addiction.

The day featured a full round of golf followed by dinner, raffles, and community-building activities. Herren Project fielded a team, and our Executive Director, Bonnie Sawyer, joined the celebration to thank the Malone family and everyone who came out in support.

“We are blessed to have this amazing support year after year. Family, friends, individuals, companies all continue to be supportive and remember Matthew, which is a blessing to our family.” Mike Malone, Matthew’s father & organizer

Matthew’s legacy continues to inspire action and education. During his recovery journey, he was supported by Herren Project, and his family has received care and connection through our programs as well. His sister, Jenna, served as a Herren Project Youth Ambassador and launched a Herren Project Club at her school in Northbridge, MA, to help educate young people about the risks of substance misuse. The tournament stands as a heartfelt tribute to Matthew—who passed away on October 6, 2017—and a living example of how one family’s commitment can spark change across a community.

Why a Golf Tournament Matters

Golf tournaments do more than fill a tee sheet—they bring neighbors, classmates, coworkers, and local businesses together around a shared purpose. Foursomes become support systems; dinner tables become places where stories are heard, stigma is challenged, and resources are shared. When people come together like this, they knit a network of care with real capacity to drive change—raising awareness, opening doors to help, and replacing shame with understanding. That same community and connection are essential to recovery and healing. Each conversation, pledge, and putt sends ripple effects far beyond the fairway, building the kind of support that sustains people off the course, too.

To the Malone family and the volunteers, sponsors, and players who made this year’s tournament possible—thank you. As a 100% privately funded nonprofit, every dollar counts and goes directly to recovery navigation, family support groups, scholarships, and prevention education. Peer-to-peer fundraising is volunteerism in action—neighbors inviting neighbors, securing sponsors, and rallying teams. Our ability to deliver the critical work that helps people reclaim their lives depends on community leaders like the Malones. Your dedication keeps Matthew’s legacy present—and growing—so more individuals and families find connection, resources, and hope.
