HOPE is a GIFT

This month’s Game Changer of the month is Herren Project Alum and Recovery Coach Aubrey “AJ” Wilsey. Today AJ celebrates four and a half years of sobriety and celebrates every day to its fullest. Not only is Aubrey thriving in recovery, but he is also a present father to his four children. He has started a youth movement, The Dweeb Movement, focused on educating children about mental health so they can avoid taking the same path he did.

AJ Wilsey Recovery Coach

AJ has dedicated his life to helping others that struggle with their addictions. He spent time working for There Is a Solution Inc., a reentry program that helps guide men released from incarceration and currently on parole or probation. Aubrey now works at the Pier Recovery Center of Cape Cod and is a gambling ambassador spreading awareness of gambling addictions. He also has his own clothing business called High Off Hope.

Aubrey believes it is important to give back to the community and finds time to help others on a daily basis. This past December, he held his 3rd Annual toy drive through The Dweeb Movement, partnering with his mother, who has been doing this for many years, through her toy drive Called “HOPE in a Gift.”

Mom and son Toy Drive

AJ and his mother put Christmas donation boxes in many different businesses and recovery programs on Cape Cod. They collected hundreds of Christmas toys for families in need in their community. This was his third year hosting the toy drive, and it was another great success. They helped families with many gifts for each child in their family and donated all the rest of the gifts to children in foster care.

Community and connection are at the forefront of successful recovery. We are proud of AJ’s work in his community and for Herren Project, helping others take the first step toward recovery.
