Making Waves in the Fight Against Addiction

Herren Project is making waves in the fight against addiction. Your donation creates a ripple, and together, we make a wave. Join us for this year’s Day of Giving on July 24 and become part of the wave!

Why 24?

The number 24 is significant in the Herren Project community. It is not only our founder, Chris Herren’s high school basketball number, but it is an important part of his story. It signifies Chris’s commitment to his recovery journey, living life one day at a time, 24/7. The number 24 is also meaningful for our entire community and all those in or seeking recovery. The 24-hour chip is the first milestone achieved. For many in recovery, the number 24 signifies living one day at a time.

24 means commitment

24 means healing

24 means another chance

24 means hope

24 means a new day

2+2 = 4? Nope. 24.

2+2=24

We are larger than the sum of our parts. When we work together, we amplify our efforts. Each donation, each act of service, each person speaking up, each enthusiast running for the cause, and each family and individual we support combine to bring significant impact. We become a movement, and we create change. We love individual acts of service, and we hope to inspire these too! But today, we ask you to join us in creating a more enormous wave by donating to our annual empowerment appeal to power up our excellent work and to change lives.

1 = 6. Yup.

Addiction is a family disease. Consider this fact: Every person with addiction impacts, on average, six loved ones. So, when you support an individual’s recovery, you impact six additional people. The more families we help, the more exponential the impact, and our communities thrive.

Herren Project has been making waves with innovative programming, filling in gaps with essential recovery services and housing, family support groups, and prevention tools since 2011. As the recovery movement grows, we continue to invent new solutions to address challenges in the field and ensure that all people receive the quality care they deserve to live a healthy, fulfilling life in recovery. Imagine if we were to reach the most vulnerable individuals by tailoring our programs to new settings. We could show how it is done! With our national scope, we have the opportunity to impact the nation. What we do in one state pilot program can set an example for others. The ripple creates a wave.

Ripples of Water Turning into a Wave

We are a movement of committed individuals doing exceptional acts of service, and we’re making waves. Some of our donors raise funds at memorial golf outings. The Malone family, whose story is highlighted in the 2024 Empowerment Appeal, is exemplary in doing this. Since 2019, they have held five tournaments and have raised almost $100,000 to honor and remember their loved one, Matthew.

Some give because they believe in helping the less fortunate. Several donors support recovery scholarships to honor or remember a loved one or to celebrate their recovery by paying it forward. Some believe in good citizenship and support members in their local communities. Some give back because they have graciously received. No matter the why, we are in this together. Each ripple combines to create a wave of impact that is saving lives.

Some give through action by participating in athletic races and events, leveraging their networks to raise money for the cause. Team Herren Project is a powerful example of turning a ripple into a wave. Over the last 10 years, Team Herren Project has created a tidal wave of financial support, positive awareness, and community building. With over 1,100 teammates, they have raised over $5M collectively through peer-to-peer fundraising and created a wave of change nationwide in breaking the stigma of addiction.

If you have been affected by addiction or are an ally to the cause, we invite you to join Team Herren Project and bring your energy to this grassroots fundraising effort.

All it takes is one person to start a ripple. It may be one voice to cry out. One mover and shaker to connect the dots. It can be one person sharing vital information or their story. One person to have the courage to break the stigma or one with a passion for inspiring another. One person creates a ripple. Ripples attract other ripples. Those ripples form a wave. And then we have a movement, and we all can be “wavemakers” in the fight against addiction.

Wavemakers

Chris Herren, after finding his recovery, formed a nonprofit founded on the principle of helping others and paying it forward. Effectively starting a ripple. Since 2011, Chris and his family have celebrated his recovery, which by the grace of God will be 16 years on August 1, 2024. He has made Unguarded and The First Day film and published a book. He has spoken to over 2 million people through Herren Talks. Opened Herren Wellness, a holistic recovery center in Seekonk, MA, now celebrating 6 years of helping people. Chris is making waves.

Chris and Heather Herren

He is a perfect example of the power one person might create —becoming an inspiration for so many others as a voice for recovery and a beacon of hope. Chris formed our nonprofit with the hope of helping one person find recovery. Since those beginnings, Herren Project has walked with 7,439 individuals on their recovery journey, each with family members and loved ones.

There is Power in Numbers

Chris has inspired a team of loyal supporters who follow his lead. The 24 Club is a team of committed Herren Project monthly donors from all donation levels across the country. The 24 Club team believes that together, we can and will recover from and overcome addiction, one person, one family, and one community at a time. They are the ultimate game-changers.

We symbolically wear his number as loyal fans when we commit to a monthly donation through the 24 Club. These consistent donations bring sustainable funding and predictability to the organization with benefits beyond the size of the gift. Each ripple creates a wave. Learn more and join the 24 Club today and become a loyal fan! Whether you give $10 a month or $1000, your gift is a difference maker.
