Our Community

Why We Run For Herren Project

Teammates come from all walks of life. Some are in long-term recovery. Others know someone in recovery or someone who has been affected by substance use disorder. Some have lost a loved one to the disease of addiction while others are simply passionate about making a difference. The community that has formed amongst our teammates is supportive, welcoming and empowering. We hope you will join us for a race soon.

Team History

How the Idea of Team Herren Project Began

Chris Herren, former professional basketball player and founder of Herren Project, is incredibly passionate about sports, exercise and the importance of physical wellness.

In 2014, Herren Project was awarded three bibs through the John Hancock Boston Marathon Charity Program to run the Boston Marathon. On Monday 21, 2014, Chris Herren, Kevin Mikolazyk, and Pamela Hogue (Herren Project Ambassador) took off from the Hopkinton starting line and ran those 26.2 miles.

Building a community of people participating in active events like this excited Chris Herren and Herren Project staff. They decided to create a network of people who wanted to participate in races to raise funds and awareness for the prevention, treatment and recovery of substance use disorder and Team Herren Project was born.
