Liam’s Anchor was started in 2019 by the Cunningham family in honor and memory of their beloved son, Liam, who was kind, charismatic, and funny. Liam passed away from a drug overdose on September 27, 2016.
The Story Behind Liam’s Anchor
In 2014, Liam and his friend, Mark Franks, started a small apparel company using an anchor Liam had created and patented, featuring hooks shaped like Cape Cod. Liam dreamed of one day having his own apparel company featuring his Cape anchor. Sue, Phil, and Katie Cunningham, along with Liam’s girlfriend, Sara, started Liam’s Anchor to honor his spirit and carry on his legacy of helping others for years to come.
The family has sold hats and other merchandise featuring Liam’s anchor in purple, the color associated with addiction awareness and recovery over the past few years, giving the net proceeds to Herren Project. Every sale donated to the Herren Project supports our mission of education, outreach, advocacy, and treatment for addiction and recovery, and has raised over $15,000 to date.
Anchored in Hope
Herren Project has partnered with Bonfire to sell limited-edition “Anchored in Hope” Herren Project gear, featuring Liam’s Anchor. This design is available as a T-shirt, crew neck sweatshirt, and hoodie. A percentage of each order supports Herren Project’s recovery and prevention programs. Each percentage varies depending on the order you place.
This special edition gear will not only raise funds to help others affected by addiction, but Liam’s Anchor will spread hope, raise awareness, and break the stigma of addiction.
Cape Clasp
Inspired by Liam Cunningham’s original Cape Anchor design, The Cape Anchor Bracelet was created in July 2026 to celebrate Liam’s birthday and to help carry forward a legacy of hope, resilience, and community.
Crafted in limited quantities, each bracelet features Liam’s Anchor cast in solid red bronze and paired with purple marine-grade cord, representing the Herren Project’s ongoing mission to support individuals and families impacted by substance use disorder.
With every bracelet sold, $5 will be donated directly to the Herren Project to help support prevention, recovery, family support services, and programs that empower individuals to live healthy, fulfilling lives.
