Youth Ambassador: Maria Reuther
When I first entered high school, I was overwhelmed by the choices in front of me. Clubs, sports, and academic pressure—it was a lot to take in. I knew I wanted to get involved in something meaningful, but I wasn’t sure where to start.
That changed at my freshman year club fair when I stumbled upon the Herren Project table. What caught my attention wasn’t just the cause—it was the people. The students representing the Herren Project club were the kindest, most welcoming individuals I had met in my short time at school. Their warmth drew me in, and I decided to give the club a try. I’ve been involved ever since.
Joining Herren Project has been one of the most impactful decisions I’ve made. I strongly believe in the message we share—that prioritizing mental and physical health is essential, especially in a high-pressure environment like high school. It’s all too easy for students to feel isolated or stressed, and in those moments, some may turn to substances to cope. That’s why I believe every school should have a Herren Project club—to be a source of support, connection, and prevention.
As a Youth Ambassador, one of the most rewarding parts of this role is hearing from my peers that I’m someone they can talk to about anything. That trust means the world to me. Being there for others, listening, and offering support is not just what I do—it’s who I strive to be.
Our club does more than just talk about mental wellness—we put it into action. From creating artwork to writing and passing out motivational notes during stressful times of the year, we aim to uplift our school community in fun and meaningful ways.
I’m incredibly grateful to be a Youth Ambassador for Herren Project. This experience has helped me grow as a leader, a friend, and an advocate. I look forward to continuing this journey and making an even greater impact among my peers.
