Spreading Kindness at Hathaway Elementary
At Hathaway Elementary School, the entire student body, grades K-4, embraced Wellness Week with Herren with open hearts and boundless energy. Guided by teacher Suzanne Hole and along with the third-grade teacher team and their classes, all the students participated in various creative, kind, and meaningful activities that brought the entire school community together.
Coffee Sleeve Decorating: A Cup of Kindness
Third graders kicked off the week by decorating coffee sleeves which were shared with the community thanks to local partners Grafik Coffee Shop and Sunset Cove, delivering warmth and inspiration one cup at a time.“Whether it’s a smile, a kind word, or a reminder that ‘You are enough,’ these little messages can make a big difference.”
Hidden Bookmarks: Joy Between the Pages
Students designed one-of-a-kind bookmarks filled with positive quotes and colorful artwork, then secretly tucked them into books throughout the school library. These “hidden treasures” were meant to surprise, inspire, and be shared—turning an ordinary moment into a special one.
Chalk It Up for Wellness
Armed with sidewalk chalk and a lot of spirit, students filled the walkways around the school with cheerful messages, motivational quotes, and fun illustrations. Their chalk art served as visual reminders that kindness, wellness, and connection are all around us.
Recess Circle: Friendship Starts Here
A simple but powerful addition to the playground—the Recess Circle—offered a place where students could go to make new friends. It quickly became a symbol of inclusion and friendship, reminding students they’re never alone during playtime.
Wellness Walk: Moving Toward Mindfulness
Students participated in group wellness walks, taking in fresh air and peaceful moments. These walks encouraged students to slow down, breathe deeply, and enjoy being together while moving their bodies and clearing their minds.
Heart to Heart: Thank You, Teachers!
As the week came to a close, students took time to write heartfelt notes of appreciation for their teachers and school staff. These messages—written on purple hearts and displayed on classroom doors—were a colorful and touching way to say thank you.
Poetry and Song: A Meaningful Finale
Mrs. Hole’s class wrote an acrostic poem exploring what “Be You, Live Well” means to them. During the final community meeting, all third graders came together in song, performing “I Like Being Me” by Kathryn the Grape—a joyful, empowering conclusion to an amazing wellness week.
A Week to Remember
Wellness Week with Herren at Hathaway Elementary wasn’t just about activities—it was about building a community rooted in kindness, wellness, and connection. Through each thoughtful action, students showed how small moments can create lasting impact.
Thank you to Mrs. Hole, the third-grade teaching staff, the third-grade students, and community partners for helping make this week so special. Together, you’ve shown what it means to live well.
