Running the NYC Marathon has always been a bucket list dream, but running it with the Herren Project elevates it to a calling. As a therapist and social worker, my goal is to support healing not just individually, but on a community and systemic level. To me, running embodies the resilience, perseverance, consistency, and discipline I witness daily in my clients' recovery journeys. A "keep going" mentality or "keep coming" philosophy, as they say in the rooms.
I am running for my patients, both those fighting for a life worth living and those we have lost to substance use disorder. I also run proudly as a daughter of recovering alcoholics, blessed to have witnessed the beautiful gift of their transformation. As Hebrews 12:1 reminds us, "Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
