Project Description

Running Boston Marathon 2020 to bring awareness to substance use disorderI live in Dedham, Massachusetts. I am 24 years old, and this will be my first marathon. Although most of my official runs have been in the 5k range, I’ve always dreamed of one day taking the leap and running Boston. I am so grateful and excited to train this year as a part of the Herren Project 2020 Boston team.

Herren Project was first introduced to me back in high school, when Chris Herren came to our gymnasium to speak. At the time I wasn’t really aware of how much his story would affect me personally, but on August 8, 2018, my family lost an incredibly important piece of our world to an accidental overdose.

Michael was a cousin to me – he was also a brother, son, friend, and nephew to all of the most important people in my life. I’m running for Michael, for my family, for my Auntie Patti, Uncle Jimmy, Shannon, Patrick, and Alyssa, and for all the other individuals and families affected by substance use disorder.

I hope that my participation brings awareness of this epidemic to my community and helps end the stigma surrounding substance abuse.
