Maggie LaRoche
From: Silverlake, NH
What I do for a living: Senior Associate Scientist at Pfizer where I work in the Biotherapeutics R&D group.
Why I choose to run New York with Herren Project:
I will be running this race in honor of my sister Lauren Brooke who was robbed of her life during her battle with a substance use disorder. By running this marathon, I hope to bring positive awareness to the disease of addiction and empower individuals to cope with life’s challenges substance-free. I have unfortunately seen the pain and destruction that a substance use disorder can cause an individual and their family. I hope to raise awareness to let people know that there IS hope and to help ensure that no family has to deal with losing a loved one to this disease.
What I do for fun (besides running and helping others!):
Aside from running, I have been coaching girls ice hockey for the last 4 winters. When not on the ice or running miles on the trails, I spend a lot of my time with family and friends either skiing/hiking in the White Mountains or spending time on the beach on Cape Cod.
What I’m most proud of:
All the awareness/conversations I have been able to have with friends surrounding substance use disorder since joining Team Herren Project!!
