Running Boston Marathon 2020 to bring awareness to substance use disorderI’ll be toeing the starting line at the 2020 Boston Marathon for Team Herren Project after having a wonderful experience at the Berlin Marathon in 2019 with the team.

I call Chicago my home and love being a part of the running community here. So much so, that I work for Fleet Feet Chicago and daily, get to help other runners achieve their goals and pass on encouragement and excitement.

Running became a way to instill change my life in 2009 and overcome health related issues of various kinds. Since 2009, I’ve run 9 marathons and too many other races to count throughout the years. Each race, however, reminds me that I’ve been blessed to be in better health than I once was, that change and recovery is possible, and to remember that we all need support from time to time – via aid stations or people to cheer us on.

Naturally, I saw running for Team Herren Project as a great way to be a positive force for change in recovery from addiction. I’m grateful for the opportunity to help support those in need and seeking a better way of life and to be an example of how change and healing is possible.
