Michael Shea
I am running the NYC Marathon with Herren Project to honor the life lived of my dad, who
passed away in August 2023 due to an alcohol-use disorder. He was a hard-working electrician
with a joking side, and I could never escape his pranks. I know how proud he would be to see my
family and I gathered in New York to promote and advocate for the prevention, treatment, and
recovery of substance-use disorders. I cannot wait to run and tell his story, and I feel so
comforted knowing he has the best seat in the house to watch it all.
