Tara Kersten Boston Marathon Team

Tara Kersten

My name is Tara Kersten and I live in New Berlin, WI. I work as a physician specializing in Electrodiagnostic Medicine and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.

I chose to run Boston with Herren Project after I read an article in the most recent BAA newsletter about Sam Norton and his girlfriend. I also am running to help with my grief, after losing my brother to a long battle with heroin addiction in December 2022. Like Sam, I also was hospitalized for exercise-induced rhabdomyolysis in 2018. I just felt drawn to Sam’s story and then as I read more about Herren Project, I really wanted to get involved. I’m running Boston as a time qualifier but running with the Herren Project team will give my training a lot more purpose and help me honor my brother’s memory.

I love boating on Wisconsin lakes and cycling during our short summers, and then traveling to tropical locations to run races and explore during our very long winters. I also enjoy watching my 3 boys play club basketball. And I love cheering for the Milwaukee Bucks and Green Bay Packers!

I am most proud of my 3 boys (twins age 11 and a 9-year-old)…they are my greatest accomplishment. I am also proud of and love my career. And I’m proud of my running…I ran Boston qualifying marathons 3 times in 2022-2023, won my last marathon, and won a 50-mile co-ed pairs race with my friend last October. We ran all the way down the Door County peninsula…it is a very hilly run, but the most beautiful running you can do in Wisconsin!
