This month, our Prevention Spotlight shines on two of our Herren Project Clubs that went the extra mile this year by planning and participating in events that spread awareness and shared the Be You message. Everyone at Herren Project is grateful for the passion and dedication our clubs bring to every meeting, activity, and event throughout the school year.

As another school year comes to an end, we want to wish everyone a safe and fun summer. We cannot wait to see what your clubs will accomplish during the 2026–2027 school year. For now, let’s take a look at what the Haddon Township and John A. Holmes Herren Project Clubs were up to this past year.

Haddon Township Herren Project Club

The Haddon Township Herren Project Club, led by advisor Rose Austin, stayed busy throughout the year planning events that promoted wellness, prevention, and community connection.

Rose shared:

“First, we participated in a Recovery Walk in September and donated $500 to Starting Point, Inc., a wellness center in Haddon Township, New Jersey, that offers guidance and support for individuals and families navigating mental health or addiction challenges.”

The club also hosted its third annual 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament on April 2, with more than twenty teams participating. Once again, the event raised funds to support Starting Point while bringing students and community members together for a fun and meaningful event.

Last week, the club held its first-ever Trivia Night, which was created as a Passion Project by Herren Youth Ambassador Sydney Troncone. The event was a tremendous success and raised additional funds to donate to Starting Point.

In addition to fundraising and awareness efforts, the Haddon Township Herren Project Club continues to focus on education and prevention within their school community. On May 15, the club sponsored a speaker for junior and senior students during their prom meeting. The speaker, an addiction counselor who has been sober for four years, shared his personal experiences and encouraged students to make safe and healthy choices.

The club also used funds raised throughout the year to purchase shirts for all students attending prom, helping promote school spirit and strengthen positive community connections.

John A. Holmes High School Herren Project Club

Since 2018, the John A. Holmes High School Herren Project Club has brought the community together through its annual Healthy Soles 5K in support of youth wellness and healthy living.

This year’s event was the largest yet, drawing record participation and creating an energetic atmosphere filled with community pride and support. Held in historic downtown Edenton, participants enjoyed beautiful weather as runners and walkers of all ages gathered for the growing annual tradition.

Club members worked hard in the weeks leading up to the race, helping prepare for the event and enthusiastically cheering on participants along the course. Over the years, the race has become more than a fundraiser — it has become a meaningful community event that brings people together around a shared commitment to supporting local youth and overall wellness.

The JAHHS Herren Project Club is grateful for the continued support of participants, volunteers, sponsors, community members, and the National Herren Project Club, all of whom helped make this year’s event such a success.

The club looks forward to welcoming even more participants next spring and would love to have other Herren Project Clubs join them for the event.
