$2,000 Grant Award – Durfee High School,Fall River, MA
This year’s theme is casino night to complement the Great Gatsby Senior Prom theme. The décor will help evoke a lavish theme that boasts Durfee’s colors of Red and Black. To encourage students to remain until the next morning, this year we plan to broadcast a timeline of the evening’s events on large TV monitors at each end of the gymnasium, where the event will be held. The monitors will play a continuous slide show of footage of senior class members and will advertise special games and prizes on the hour from 1:00am-3:00am.We will highlight the favored hypnotist from 3:30 to 4:30 and then raffle the largest prize at 4:45,15 minutes before the event closing time, in which students must be present to claim. The Herren Project After-Prom & Graduation Grant Opportunity has come at such a dyer time for high school seniors nationwide. The COVID-19 pandemic has ceased our fundraising efforts consisting of tagging outside businesses throughout the city, a Foxwoods Bus trip, and our largest fundraising event, the Narrows band night featuring performances by Durfee High faculty.
$1,000 Grant Award – Barnstable High School Hyannis, MA
The Barnstable High School “Celebration” is an all-night (11pm-5am), smart, safe and sober event following the high school’s traditional, formal prom on May 22nd. Celebration is presented to our graduating seniors and their dates, free of charge, as a gift from the community, to congratulate them on their academic accomplishments and wish them all the best in their future. This event keeps graduating seniors and their prom dates off the streets and eliminates the opportunity for drinking and driving. It is our goal to promote unity for the class, which is made up of diverse social backgrounds, and provide them with a positive memory that will last a lifetime. Keeping the students off the roads, safe and entertained all night with memories to last a lifetime is the mission of Celebration. The athletic field house is transformed into a multi-stage venue including theme rooms, performances, dance floors, interactive games, Karaoke, raffles and food stations. Live bands, DJs and other live acts are hired to keep the students and party participants engaged all night. The parent volunteer group hires the performers, decorates, rents attractions and solicits local restaurants for the food. Student participants and their dates are bused home or picked up by the parents.
$500 Grant Award – Upper Dublin High School, Fort Washington, PA
Upper Dublin High School and supporting community have offered a supervised, safe, and fun post prom event for over 25 years. All UDHS seniors are invited to the Post Prom, regardless of whether they attend the prom. On average, 85% of the senior class attends our post prom event. Round trip transportation is provided between the high school and the post prom venue which is a large sports club. The students have the opportunity to use the gym equipment, play games, play laser tag, use large inflatables, watch a movie, have supervised quiet time, eat snacks, play casino games, have their fortunes told, and have caricatures of themselves drawn. There is a “dorm room”setup with “swag” from many colleges and universities from which the students may each pick a gift. There is also a large room filled with prizes such as TV’s, tablets, sporting event tickets, college and high school themed clothing and more. This year’s theme is the Netflix Show “Stranger Things.” Care is taken when the students board the buses at the high school and again when they reach the venue to assure no alcohol or drugs or other dangerous items will be brought into the venue for the night. Prom and post prom are always held on Mother’s day weekend. This also helps to assure that seniors will attend and be safe so that they can celebrate with their moms on Sunday.
