Meet the 2022 Spirit of Purple Winner!
Parmila has been an outstanding student leader for all Putnam’s Herren Project Initiatives. The last two years have been, to say the least, very challenging for all our students. Covid restrictions and protocols may have limited the way we promote and gather as far as activities; however, Parmila and her classmates accomplished so many things. We are extremely proud of her and appreciative for all that she has accomplished in her four years here at Putnam.
Parmila created a Public Service Announcement for the Hamden County District Attorney Stop the Swerve Event that was held on April 7, 2022 at the Springfield Basketball Hall of Fame. Her submission and video won Honorable Mention and $1000 award from hundreds of PSA entries.
In addition to this and the many other things she has accomplished this year, I would like to highlight Parmila’s efforts as a student ambassador for our Be a Friend Project. This has been a very popular anti-bullying campaign where students write and offer words of hope and encouragement to students across the nation who have been victims of bullying. This year, Parmila and other leaders held an Imperfect Day where students celebrated their differences, and a Take What You Need event that focused on Mental Health and feeling good about yourself, while supporting others who may be down or experiencing a “bad” day.
Parmila was also selected to be a part of our student leadership team for the Start with Hello/Sandy Hook Promise initiative. This program is supported through the Attorney General’s office and Springfield Public School Central Office.
Parmila is a caring and wonderful young lady with a bright future. In all the years that I have been involved with the Herren Project activities, I cannot think of a better candidate for the Spirit of Purple Award.
