WAVEMAKER of the Month: Jenn DeVore

Welcoming our newest Herren Project Ambassador and celebrating the ripple effect she’s creating through community, compassion, and miles.
Some people don’t just show up for their communities, they move them. This month, we’re proud to recognize Jenn DeVore as our WAVEMAKER of the Month and to welcome her as our newest Herren Project Ambassador. Jenn is the kind of person who turns commitment into action: she cares for people professionally, supports recovery personally, and brings others along with her one conversation, one fundraiser, one finish line at a time.
  • Home base: Montoursville, PA
  • What she does: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with 28 years of experience in Family Medicine
  • How she gives back: Two “Own Your Own Race” events—a half-marathon and an ultra
  • Impact so far: $1,800 raised for Herren Project
  • Off-the-trail reset: Painting + adult coloring (her “mental health” therapy)
A heart for recovery—rooted in family and lived experience
Jenn’s connection to recovery is personal. In her own words and story, she shares that her biological father is in recovery, and she has a cousin impacted by addiction. That lived proximity shapes how she sees the world and why she chooses to stand with people and families looking for support.
In a Herren Project feature about her half-marathon, Jenn shared what drives her:
“I feel that everyone should have the opportunity to have all the resources at their fingertips.”
That belief aligns directly with Herren Project’s mission to help individuals and families live healthy, fulfilling lives by preventing substance misuse, celebrating recovery, and building resilient communities.

Jenn and Chris Herren

From caring for patients to showing up on the starting line
As an LPN in a Family Medicine office, Jenn has spent nearly three decades supporting people through everyday health challenges and big life moments. That same steady presence shows up in how she supports Herren Project: consistently and authentically.
And then there’s her running.
Jenn’s a runner and hiker—and she’s also found joy in creative outlets like painting and adult coloring, which she describes as therapeutic for her mental health. Her story is a good reminder that wellness is rarely one thing. It’s the full picture: movement, community, purpose, and the practices that help us stay grounded.
Two races. One message. A whole lot of momentum.
Through two Own Your Own Race challenges- a half-marathon and an ultra, Jenn raised $1,800 to support Herren Project. That’s more than a number. It represents people who were inspired enough by her effort to join in. It represents conversations about recovery that might not have happened otherwise. It represents hope carried forward through action.

“Own Your Own Race” is built for people like Jenn: individuals who want to take a goal they’re already chasing and connect it to something bigger. Participants choose their event, set a fundraising goal, and rally their community while our team supports them with tools, guidance, and gear along the way.
A milestone Jenn is proud of: choosing sobriety
One of the most meaningful parts of Jenn’s story is her commitment to being a “sober runner.” She shared that she stopped drinking alcohol on 11/8/25 and is proud of fully committing to that choice.
That kind of decision takes courage and consistency, the same qualities that make her a natural ambassador and community leader.
What being an Ambassador means to Jenn
For Jenn, serving as a Herren Project Ambassador is about helping people succeed in recovery and educating others on addiction and recovery. It’s not about having all the perfect words; it’s about being willing to speak up, share resources, and keep showing up.
And that’s what makes her this month’s WAVEMAKER: she’s creating ripples that reach far beyond a single race day.
