As Recovery Month comes to a close, Herren Project is grateful to have celebrated recovery with our community at numerous awareness events and community gatherings during the month of September. IGT Downtown 5K

Team Herren Project represented at the IGT Downtown 5K in Providence, RI, on Sunday, September 18th, 2022. The group bonded on the steps of the Rhode Island state house, each sharing their connection to Herren Project. For a few of our team members it was their first race ever. We are grateful for this group of teammates who raised $5,798 in funding to support Herren Project’s programs and services.

Clinton Global Initiative

18 for Jake Memorial Golf Tournament

The McMahon family honored their son Jake who passed away from a drug overdose in September 2021 at the first annual 18 for Jake Memorial Golf Tournament. The tournament sold out and raised over $20,000 for the programs of Herren Project.

Rally 4 Recovery

Herren Project had a great day celebrating recovery and networking with like-minded organizations at Rhode Island’s Rally 4 Recovery at Roger Williams Park Zoo & Temple of Music in Providence on Saturday, September 17th, 2022. The Rally 4 Recovery is a free annual event to celebrate recovery from alcohol and drug addiction to celebrate National Recovery Month! Herren Project is proud to have made connections within our local community, providing information about our recovery support services for people seeking recovery and those who have a loved one in recovery or are impacted by addiction.

First Annual Alumni & Family BBQ

Over 100 Herren Project alumni and family members gathered to celebrate community and connection at the first annual Herren Project Alumni & Family BBQ. Herren Project’s founder, Chris Herren, staff, alumni, support group members, ambassadors, and family members came from across the country to enjoy each other’s company at the Yawgoo Bakes venue in Exeter, RI. Many memories were made. We look forward to making this an annual event.

ROAR – Ride for Opioid Addiction Recovery

Herren Project is grateful for the partnership with ROAR, Ride for Opioid Addiction Ride. This year celebrated the 5th year of this memorable event. Herren Project’s Recovery Coordinator, Dimitri Bakes, spoke on behalf of the organization and also participated in the ride from Falmouth to Barnstable in Cape Cod, MA. Over the past four years, funding from ROAR has provided 47 people on Cape Cod with sober living and recovery coaching Scholarships, totaling $70,500. ROAR was started by Jamie and Karen Pina. It is a nonprofit organization that rides to raise funds to assist with transitional services for people in Cape Cod.

Mobilize Recovery

Herren Project is a proud sponsor of Mobilize Recovery Across America 2022! As part of the tour, Herren Project founder Chris Herren spoke at the Mobilize Recovery event in Denver, CO at 5280 Recovery High School. Mobilize Recovery is an initiative of the Recovery Advocacy Project and The Voices Project. Its mission is to expand policy to support recovery, create connections to supportive services that are vital and lifesaving, and to engage affected individuals in meaningful community action. The initiative convenes advocates with lived experience to build capacity for organized civic engagement with new leadership across the country.

Camp Cronin Cleanup with ORCA

Herren Project alumni, ambassadors and staff joined with Ocean Recovery Community Alliance (ORCA) and CCAR for a community beach cleanup at Camp Cronin in Narragansett, RI. ORCA’s mission focuses on providing opportunities for people to give back to their communities in a meaningful way by organizing cleanups; building a community alliance of individuals, organizations, agencies and businesses united by a desire to act as stewards of our world’s coastlines, oceans and waterways. Over 490 pounds of trash was collected and recycled.

Celebrating Recovery Through Community

Herren Project team members represented at the Celebrating Recovery Through Community Outreach event along with 30+ community organizations in Hyannis, MA, at the Pier Recovery Center on September 10th, 2022. This event brought the Cape Cod recovery community together and spread awareness about resources and services for substance use and mental health disorders.

Berlin Marathon

Team Herren Project was represented overseas by 18 teammates in the running of the 2022 Berlin Marathon on September 25th. This amazing group of individuals raised over $33,500 in funding to support Herren Project’s services and programs.
